Remember how important turning 16 was? It was a turning point for the majority of us. Finally we are able to drive and gain some independence. In older days we could now be married and have children! Instead, we throw our children a Sweet 16 party.
My Super Sweet 16, for those of you that are Mtv challenged, is a reality television show that spotlights rich kids whose parents spare no expense in order to give their child the best Super Sweet 16 Party ever! These children make huge demands. They fly to Paris to get a special dress and have to have famous music artists perform. They tend to be rude, spoiled, rich kids that feel entitled to this rite of passage. However, they have shown a few children that are genuinely grateful to their parents for everything they are doing in order to give them the perfect party.
Now that your angel is about to turn 16, the pressure is on. Your child has likely seen this television show and although she may be realistic that you cannot spend $100,000+ on her Sweet 16, she may expect something similar to what we expect to see at a wedding. We work so hard all of our lives. We strive to achieve the most that we can. When we finally reach the age of retirement, it is time to enjoy ourselves and do all of the things we have always dreamed about. A retirement party is the best way to kick off this new chapter in life!
A loved one is retiring and it is time to plan that party that helps them transcend into that next stage of life. The best way to do this is to invite family, friends, and co-workers to a party that celebrates the retiree.
Will the party be at held at your house? Will you rent out a hall? Will you hire a caterer? Will you hire a DJ and have dancing? These are all important considerations.

High school is over and it is time to celebrate! It is time to celebrate the achievement of completing high school and becoming an adult! Teenagers everywhere look forward to a good graduation party where they can celebrate their freedom from 6am wake up calls and days full of teachers and books. This is the time before they realize how difficult college and the “real world” can be. So it is up to us as parents to give our children at least one more wonderful day of fun!

There is a new baby on the way and both mother and child deserve to be celebrated. They are also going to need a lot of new things in order to survive that first year! This is why we hold a baby shower in the mother’s honor. It is a time for loved ones to get together and celebrate life as well as to help the mother-to-be get all of those items that she will need for her newborn.

Anniversaries are such a marriage milestone, it makes me wonder if my husband and I will make it to our 50th anniversary.
Let’s do the math a minute. I am from the era where college education and career came first, so consequently we were married in our early 30’s. To make it to a Golden Wedding Anniversary, we would have to at least live to be 80 years old. With modern medicine, that is entirely possible!
Additionally, statistically speaking over half of all marriages are ending in divorce. So based on all of those facts, I say we have a 50/50 chance (God willing) to make it to our Golden Anniversary.

Do you feel that the current trend in society to wait even longer (after your career is stable, mid 40″s) to get married will change how many of us actually will reach this important milestone?
